AUBURN; Harold C. “Skip” Hurlbrink III, 59, died suddenly Saturday, July 28 in Fort Pierce, FL.

Born to Harold C. Jr. and Constance (Crawford) Hurlbrink on February 21, 1953 in Orlando, FL.

Mr. Hurlbrink was a member of the Burncoat High School class of 1971. He enlisted in the Navy and graduated from basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes in 1971. He earned his GED while serving and was stationed at the Brooklyn Naval Yard. He served aboard the USS Compass Island and was honorably discharged in 1972.

Upon returning to the Worcester area Mr. Hurlbrink worked as a barber at a number of local shops, including Susie’s Clip Joint in Worcester. He also took courses at Becker College in Leicester.

He leaves a son, Charles D. Lindgren and his wife Cynthia of North Brookfield, a daughter, Heather T. McKusick and her husband Timothy of Warren, his mother, Constance Bredenberg of Auburn, a brother, Frederick C. Hurlbrink, Sr. and his wife Luann of Brookfield, three grandsons; Eric, Tyler and Cody, two nephews and several cousins.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 11 at 11:30 a.m. in Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Ave., in Auburn. There are no calling hours. SPENCER: Jeannette C. (Valliere) Benway 88, of Howe Village, died Thursday, Aug. 9 in Mary Lane Hospital in Ware.

Jeannette worked at the former Brookfield Athletic Shoe Co. in E.Brookfield before retiring in 1992.

She was born in Spencer, the daughter of Alfred and Obella (Plouffe) Valliere. She was a member of the former St. Mary’s Church and A.A.R.P.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 10a.m. in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. There are no calling hours.

SPENCER; Michael J. Bernard, 67, of 46 Woodside Rd. died, Friday, August 17 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Barbara L. (Lapierre) Bernard, two sons; Jeffrey M. Bernard and his wife Melissa of Charlton, Brandon J. Bernard of Spencer, three brothers; Leonard L. Bernard and his wife Mary of Southbridge, William C. Bernard of Spencer, Conrad D. Bernard of Jefferson, a sister, Kathleen Beford and her husband Peter of Spencer, a grandson, Bryce J. Bernard and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Spencer, he was the son of Conrad A. & Terese M. (Small) Bernard.

Mr. Bernard was a graduate of David Prouty High School in Spencer. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the Army National Guard. He was a wire drawer for over 40 years working for several different companies, lastly, Stafford Specialties in Worcester, retiring in 2006.

He served 20 years as a volunteer fire fighter on the Spencer Fire Department. He was an amateur photographer and enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden.

A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, August 22 at 10 A.M. in the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will precede the service from 9-10 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 147, Spencer, MA, 01562.

SPENCER: Georgette G. (Leberis) Daigle 79 of Spencer, died Sunday, Aug. 19 at Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Armand J. “Bo” Daigle who died in 2010. She leaves her son Richard W. Daigle and his wife Sharon of Spencer, two grandsons Christopher and Nicholas Daigle,Sr, great grandchildren Nicholas Daigle, Jr. and Viola Daigle, her sister Sandra Degnan of Worcester, two brothers George Healy of Charlton and Henry Healy of Worcester, several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son Joseph “Chris” Daigle in 2007.

Georgette worked in the kitchen at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester for 11 years, retiring in 1998.

Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of George F. and Wanda H. (Kaminski) Leberis. She graduated from the former Commerce High School. She was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. in Notre Dame Mausoleum, 162 Webster St., Worcester. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Contributions may be made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 147, Spencer, Ma. 01562.

SPENCER: Marjorie E. (Allen) Lacroix 87, of Kittredge Rd., and Cherry Street, died Sunday, Aug. 19 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

She was the wife of Lionel N. Lacroix who died in 2002. She leaves four sons David Lacroix and his wife Joanne, William Lacroix and his wife Denise, Gary Lacroix and Michael Lacroix and his wife BettyAnn all of Spencer, her daughter Pamela Lindsey and her husband Robert of Spencer with whom she lived, many grand, great grand and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marj, along with her husband owned and operated Nelmar Gunshop out of their home for 25 years. She also was an inspector at Brookfield Athletic Shoe Co. in E.Brookfield, before retiring.

She was born in No.Brookfield, the daughter of Edgar and Eunice (Wilson) Allen. She enjoyed attending the Summit Program in Charlton and spent many Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR with her granddaughter Trish. She had a great love and affection for her family.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff in the Cardiac Unit at St. Vincent Hospital for their care and compassion.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Spencer. A calling period from 9:30-11a.m on Thursday will be held prior to the service.

Shirley F. (Houston) Guimond, 87, of Spencer died Wednesday, August 22nd in Shrewsbury. Her husband of 50 years, Roy A. Guimond died in 1999. She leaves two sons, Roy T. Guimond and his wife, Claudette of Shrewsbury, and Thomas J. Guimond of Boylston; her daughter, Marianne E. Balyk and her husband, Joseph of Holden; a brother, William Houston of Lakewood, CO; five grandchildren, Jessica O’Neil, Sarah Guimond, Brett, Matthew and Bryan Balyk; two great-grandsons, Bela Sullivan and Tyler Balyk.
She was born in Worcester, the youngest of fourteen children, to Arthur and Elizabeth (Beswick) Houston. Mrs. Quimond at one time worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance and later as a secretary for Tully Insurance. She was a member of Mary Queen of the Rosary Parish and knitted many items for the church’s bazaars; and enjoyed Senior Center functions as well as playing Bingo.
Her funeral is Friday, August 24th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at Noon in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church Street, Spencer. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery in Spencer. Calling hours are from 9:30 until 11:30 the morning of the funeral in the funeral home. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Yvonne E. (Delisle) Phoenix, his sister in law Sandra Delisle with whom she lived and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his step sister Pearl Dufault, and brothers Robert and Albert Phoenix.

Ken was a machine operator at Flexcon in Spencer for 41 years, retiring in 2003. He “was a valuable member of the Flexcon family, and worked on every machine in the plant during his 41 year employment”.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of Emile and Harriet (Pariseau) Phoenix.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of Joseph W. and Delphine (Marcoux) Robator. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

SPENCER; George W. “Monk” Harris 98 of 4 Langevin St., died Monday, Aug. 20 in Autumn Village in Worcester.

He leaves a son David M. Harris of Spencer, a daughter Deborah J. Laliberte and her husband David of Orlando, Fl., five grand children; Kelly McGowan of Kissimmee, Fl., Daniel McGowan of Jacksonville, NAS, Fl., Shannon, Christopher and Kelsey Harris all of Spencer and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother William Harris, and sisters Julia Riedl and Dorothy Harris.

“Monk”, was a machinist at the former Heald Machine in Worcester for 23 years before retiring in 1979. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific. He was an avid golfer and was once a member of Hillcrest C.C. in Leicester and Bay Path in E.Brookfield where he was a member of the “Massasoit League”. He was a dedicated Red Sox Fan. He spent his retirement years on Cape Cod in the summer and Florida in the winter, where he spent time with his family and loved riding roller coasters.

Born in Oakham, he was the son of William H. and Louise (Herman) Harris.

SPENCER: Blanche C. (Fecteau) Archambeault 90, formerly of 94 Chestnut St., died Saturday, Sept. 8 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

She leaves her husband of 68 years, Roger W. Archambeault, two sons Paul R. Archambeault and his wife Patricia of Worcester and Robert Archambeault and his wife Diane of So. Deerfield, her grand children Michael Archambeault and his wife Laura of Spencer and Michelle Fewell and her husband John of Los Angeles, Calif., several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Roland Fecteau.

Blanche worked as an office clerk in the Mass. Dept. of Welfare both in Spencer and later in Southbridge for 26 years, retiring in 1989.

Born in Spencer, she was the daughter of Wilbrod and Rose (Jette) Fecteau and later graduated from David Prouty High School, Class of 1940. She was a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish, St. Mary’s Women’s Guild and St. Anne’s Sodality. Along with her husband, she was an avid square dancer and longtime members of the “Hayloft Steppers” in Spencer. She enjoyed crochet, knitting and reading. Her two grandchildren were the love of her life.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 11a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. A calling period will be held on Wednesday from 9:15 to 10:45a.m prior to the funeral mass. Burial will be a later date and at the convenience of the family in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery. Johnson, eight grand children, Richard Grenier and his wife Theresa, James Grenier and his wife Rosetta, Michele Prendergast and her husband Christopher, John Johnson and his wife Adriana, Tracy Potter and her husband James, Amanda Martin, Stephanie Dufresne, Kenneth LeBlanc and eleven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Born in Checotah, OK she was the daughter of Floyd and Clara (Connell) Bledsoe and briefly lived in Worcester, Leicester and moved to Spencer at the age of 9, where she spent the remainder of her life.

Sue attended Spencer Schools and had previously been a member of the Spencer Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was employed for many years at the former Kleven Shoe Co. of Spencer and No.Brookfield. Along with her husband “Duke”, she owned and operated Sue-Due’s Bar on Mechanic St. in Spencer for 12 years until they sold the business and retired. Sue was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing and would do alterations for family and friends.

In her later years, she enjoyed and took a great interest in her family who all loved her for her kindness, gentle disposition and loving heart. She will be greatly missed.

During her recent illness, Sue received wonderful care from the VNA Hospice in Worcester.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Spencer. There are no calling hours.

She leaves her daughter Cathie Grenier and her husband Felix of Spencer with whom she lived, two sons Russell Dufresne of Las Vegas and Kenneth Dufresne of San Francisco, her sister June Petruzzi and her husband John of E.Brookfield and her brother Stephen Bledsoe and his wife Deborah of Spencer, her former son in laws; Wayne Ducharme and John P. Johnson, eight grand children, Richard Grenier and his wife Theresa, James Grenier and his wife Rosetta, Michele Prendergast and her husband Christopher, John Johnson and his wife Adriana, Tracy Potter and her husband James, Amanda Martin, Stephanie Dufresne, Kenneth LeBlanc and eleven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two daughters Sally Ducharme and Carol Johnson and sisters Joyce Petruzzi, Betty Grenier and a brother William Bledsoe.

Born in Checotah, OK she was the daughter of Floyd and Clara (Connell) Bledsoe and briefly lived in Worcester, Leicester and moved to Spencer at the age of 9, where she spent the remainder of her life.

Sue attended Spencer Schools and had previously been a member of the Spencer Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was employed for many years at the former Kleven Shoe Co. of Spencer and No.Brookfield. Along with her husband “Duke”, she owned and operated Sue-Due’s Bar on Mechanic St. in Spencer for 12 years until they sold the business and retired. Sue was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing and would do alterations for family and friends.

In her later years, she enjoyed and took a great interest in her family who all loved her for her kindness, gentle disposition and loving heart. She will be greatly missed.

During her recent illness, Sue received wonderful care from the VNA Hospice in Worcester.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Spencer. There are no calling hours.

Clayton A. Whitehead, 83, of 321 Brimfield Road died, Saturday, Dec. 31 in Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware after an illness.

He leaves his friend and guardian Mary Lou Stankiewicz of Spencer, three close friends with whom he lived Bob, Carl & Stephen and the residential caretakers who supported and cared for him.

Clayton was born in Worcester, son of Luke and Annie Laurie (Knapp) Whitehead. He was a lifelong resident of Monson Developmental Center in Palmer before moving to his new home 18 months ago. He enjoyed taking walks, people watching, going for car rides on the back country roads and a good cup of coffee.

The Funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 5 at 2:00PM in the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial will be private in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will precede the funeral from 1:00-2:00 PM.

SPENCER: Elsie L. (Gifford) Farmer,81, formerly of 3 Dufault Rd., died Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Radius Healthcare in Southbridge following a long illness.

She was the wife of William C. Farmer, Sr. who died in 1996. She leaves two sons William C. Farmer, Jr. and his wife Donna of Spencer and Joseph B. Farmer of Fla., two daughters Sandra L. Bishop and her husband Paul of Oxford, and Paula M. Thibault and her husband Eddie of Spencer, a sister Sheila Thibault of Largo, Fl., 13 grand children and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Larry J. Farmer in 1998, and two brothers Bruce and Kenton Gifford, and two sisters Grace Gifford and Shirley Murphy.

She was the daughter of Bruce and Shirley Gifford.

Funeral services for Elsie will be held on Friday, Jan. 27 at 11a.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 9:30 to 11a.m. prior to the service.

SPENCER: Michael J. Mancini,65, of 55 Borkum Rd., died Thursday, Feb.9 at UMASS Memorial Healthcare,119 Belmont St. in Worcester. He leaves his wife of 31 years, Christine M. (Grudzinskas) Mancini, his son Nicholas P. Mancini of Spencer, his daughter Marcella L. Mosio and her husband Brian of Charlton,his brother Anthony M. Mancini and his wife Valerie of Sutton, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother John F. Mancini and a sister Josephine M. Mancini.

Michael was born in Worcester, the son of John G. and Louise M. (Teso) Mancini, and later graduated from Commerce High in Worcester, Class of 1965. He later served his country with the US. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Chester Tuttle American Legion Post in Auburn, the Italian American Civic Club in Worcester and the “Highway Cruisers” in Worcester County. He enjoyed fabricating stained glass, hunting, antique cars, painting, sketching and wood crafting.

He was a dispatcher for MLI Pharmaceutical Co. in Shrewsbury from 1986-2003. He previously worked for the Worcester Water Dept. for 17 years as a general foreman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton with Military Honors. SPENCER; Roland H. Cassavant, 92, formerly of 13 Franklin St.,Spencer died Monday, Feb. 13 in St. Camillus Health Center, Whitinsville.

He was the husband of Anne J. (Cromwell) Cassavant who died in 2003. He leaves his daughter in law Linda R. Cassavant of Whitinsville, two granddaughters Melissa Cassavant of Whitinsville and Jessica Gray and her husband Steve of Ashburn, Va., and his beloved great grandchildren Nicholas and Christopher Gray, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son David C. Cassavant in 2006.

Roland was a truck driver for Northeast Services in Worcester for many years, before retiring.

He was born in Spencer, the son of Henry and Alma (Landroche) Cassavant and later served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Gaudette-Kirk American Legion Post 138 in Spencer and a former member of St. Mary’s Parish.

SPENCER: Albert J. Laroche, Jr.,86, formerly of 23 Mechanic St.,died Saturday, Feb. 18 in Life Care Center of Auburn.

He leaves his sister Dorothy B. Pelchat of Spencer, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sisters Jeanette Venne and Loretta V. Muzzrall.

Albert worked as a paper cutter for CRC Corp. in Spencer for 15 years, retiring in 1988.

He was born in Spencer, the son of Albert J. and Parmelia M. (Dupre) Laroche, Sr. He was a former member of the Spencer Golden Age Club and St. Mary’s Church.
