Ethier of Spencer, her brother Dr.Randolph Bretton of New Haven, Ct., nieces and nephews. Doris graduated from Brookfield High School with Honors in 1932. She was an accomplished pianist. Graveside services will be held on Monday, Feb. 4 at 1p.m. in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery in Spencer. Please omit flowers. SPENCER: William C. Bernard, 70, of North Street died Tuesday, Feb. 5 in UMass Memorial Hospital after an illness. He leaves two daughters Kelly A. Eggleston and her husband Richard of Spencer, Jenifer T. Chipman and her husband Jason of West Brookfield, four grandchildren; Vanessa, Nicholas, Makyla & Lauren, two brothers Leonard Bernard and his wife Mary of Southbridge and Conrad Bernard of Jefferson, a sister Kathleen Beford and her husband Peter of Spencer and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother Michael Bernard. William was born in Spencer, son of Conrad A. and Terese (Small) Bernard. He worked at the former Summit Steel Co. in Worcester before retiring. He served his country in the Army National Guard. He was an avid hunter. At William’s request funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. J. SPENCER: Jeanette O. (Millette) Nadreau 79, of Smithville Rd., died Friday, Feb. 8 at her home. She leaves her husband of 59 years, Harvey L. Nadreau, her son John A. Nadreau and his wife Trish of Warwick, RI., and her daughter Debra L. Rio and her husband Dale of E.Brookfield, two brothers John and Edward Gammon of Maine, two sisters Louise Bilodeau of Merrimack, NH., and Rose Berube of Lewiston, Me., five grandchildren; Cory Rio, Jason Rio and his wife Melissa all of E.Brookfield, Kristen Schaffer and her husband Dr. Bradley Schaffer of Berlin, Joshua and Jacob Nadreau of Spencer, eight great grandchildren; Emily, Hope, Abbriella and Ashlee Rio; Myles, Elyse and Kirk Schaffer, and Owen Rio, several nieces and nephews. Jeanette was an accomplished artist and teacher of art from her home, for the past 40 years. She exhibited her paintings throughout New England and published an art book titled “Walking though New England with Jeanette”. At onetime, she was an advertising agent for the Wickabaug Weekly Newspaper in Spencer for several years. She enjoyed being with her family, painting and the ocean. She was a Charter Member of the Massasoit Arts Guild and a member of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish. Born in Augusta, Me., she was the daughter of Earle and Ora (Gammon) Millette. The funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 11 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will precede the Mass on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. in the funeral home. SPENCER: William A. Ensom 85, of Donnelly Cross Rd., died suddenly, Sunday, Feb. 10 in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after being stricken ill at home. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Patricia M. (Perry) Ensom, two sons Ted W. Ensom and his wife Lori of Uxbridge, and Peter G. Ensom of Oxford, his daughter Linda L. Lee and her husband Brent of Holden,four grandchildren; Stephanie, Gregory, Rebecca and Emily Ensom, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother Robert Ensom and a sister Doris Butland. Bill was an abrasive inspector at Norton Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Spencer, and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. He was an avid golfer. He loved his family and had a strong faith in God. He enjoyed all New England Sports Teams especially the Boston Celtics. Born in Boston, he was the son of George T. and Hazel C. (Paul) Ensom. He graduated from David Prouty High School in 1945 where he played all sports. He later served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Funeral services will be held at 5p.m. at the conclusion of calling hours from 3-5p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. SPENCER: Michael J. Chalifoux 50, of Woodside Rd., died suddenly Friday, Feb. 8 at his home. He leaves his wife of 6 years, Jean L. (Lombardi) Chalifoux, former wife Lynne and daughters Kirsten L. and Jillian L. Chalifoux of E.Brookfield, his parents Raoul A. and Janet C. (Homon) Chalifoux of Spencer, two brothers Raoul M. Chalifoux, and Kevin L. Chalifoux and his wife Robin, a sister Gayle M. Lisiecki and her husband Mark all of Spencer, three step daughters Amy Rennie of Sutton, Kristin DeFosse of Charlton and Kelli Livingston of Amherst, four step grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. Michael was a furniture salesman most recently for Kloter Farms of Ellington, Ct. His furniture career began in the family business “Spencer Furniture” where he worked for several years. He later owned “Good Feet Stores” in Auburn and Springfield and also “Solar Flair Tanning Salon” in Worcester. Born in Worcester, he grew up in Spencer and later graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer in 1981. Affectionately known as “Mom’s Favorite”, his quick wit and sense of humor gave family gatherings always something to laugh about and be remembered. Michael so enjoyed time spent at Cape Cod with family and friends. He most recently attended Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester. Michael’s funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 15 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Morin and her husband Mark of E.Brookfield, two sisters Rita Martineau of Windsor, Ct., and Marcella Jacquish of Orleans, Vt., 7 grandchildren; Sharon Grieves, Reginald Girouard, Jr., Michael Girouard, Shaun Girouard, Kevin Brown, Jennifer Kane and Ellen Morin, 8 great grandchildren; Brittany, Lucas, Gabriel, Jason, Jillian, Collin, Christopher and Tea, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Girouard worked at Montrose Wire & Cable in Auburn for many years, retiring in 1990. Born in Brownington, Vt., she was the daughter of Hormidas and Alice (LaPlante) Lussier. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, and the Lashaway Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, going to the casino and volunteering for the annual USO Golf Tournament in E.Brookfield. SPENCER: Doris L. (Collette) Berger 93, of 28 Lake St., died Wednesday, Feb. 20 at her home. She was the wife of Alphonse J. Berger who died in 2003. She leaves a daughter Rosalie Faugno and her husband Robert of Spencer, grandchildren; Wayne Faugno and his wife Michelle of No.Andover, Kristy Delage and her husband Keith of Leicester and Todd Faugno of Boston, four great grandchildren; Kira, Cole, Dyllan and Ryan, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers Emile and Donald Collette. Doris owned and operated the former Dor-El’s Gift Shop in Spencer for 10 years, retiring in 1972. She was born in Spencer, the daughter of Edmond J. and Exilda (Cournoyer) Collette. She graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Beacon Hospice for the exceptional care given Doris before she died. SPENCER: Marie A. (Baron) Terry, 86, of Spencer passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 26 in UMass Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. She spent her last day comfortable and alert, surrounded by loving family and friends. She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Milstead and her husband Joel of Princeton, Marsha Goff and her husband Albert of Brookfield, Linda King of Rochdale and her life partner Bruce Bellows, Joyce Bosse and her husband Thomas of Spencer and Sandra Valiquette of Brookfield, a sister Arlene Andresen of Brockton, 6 grandchildren, a great-Grandson and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a daughter Janice Terry and 5 siblings. Marie was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses of the Leicester Congregation and previously belonged to the Oxford Congregation. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Louis and Carmelia (Bercume) Baron. She enjoyed painting, line dancing with her friend Rita, reading the bible, playing the organ, crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9 at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 458 Main Street, Cherry Valley. A reception will follow at 2:00 PM at the Spencer Fish & Game Club, 155 Mechanic Street, Spencer. Ron was a New England Patriots, and college basketball fan. He enjoyed the ocean and walking on the beach. She is predeceased by her daughter Priscilla A. Burke in 2007 and her grandson Ronald Sauvageau in 1995. Helen was a librarian at Assumption College in Worcester for 23 years, retiring in 1991. Born in Spencer, she was the daughter of Edgar and Rose (Bazinet) Sauvageau, and later graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Church in Spencer and most recently a member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Worcester. SPENCER; Joseph B. Smith, 86, of 4 Spring St., died Sunday, April 14 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of Ann A. (Small) Smith who died in 2005. He leaves two sons; Thomas J. Smith, Sr. and his wife Beverly, Joseph M. Smith and his wife Candice, four daughters; Nancy E. Burdette and her husband Robert, Catherine A. Driscoll and her husband James, Jr., Cynthia M. Hayes and her husband Mark, Patricia J. Brazeau and her husband Paul all of Spencer, a sister, Dorothy Smith of Glastonbury, CT, 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Born in Brookfield, he was the son of Burton & Eileen B. (Mahaney) Smith. Mr. Smith worked at Quaboag Rubber in North Brookfield as a wheel wright for 27 years, retiring in 1991. He served his country in the Army during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 138 in Spencer and the D.A.V. After retiring he spent many years maintaining O’Gara Park in Spencer. He always had a solution to any problem that arose. At the family’s request Funeral Services are Private. Burial with Military Honors will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton at the convenience of the family. SPENCER: Thelma S. (Felix) Puchalski 73 of Kingsbury Rd., died suddenly, Monday, April 22, 2013. She was the wife of Joseph G. Puchalski, Jr. who died in 1991. She leaves three sons Joseph G. Puchalski,III of Nashua, NH, Lance Puchalski and his wife Robin and Jason F. Puchalski all of E.Brookfield, her daughter MeiLani Dumont and her husband Robert of Merrimack, NH , two brothers John Felix and Ray Felix both in Calif., four sisters Jean Wood of VA, Helen Stockwell of Fl., Virginia Ogawa and Beverly Felix both in Calif., mother in law, Rachel D. Puchalski of Charlton, brothers in laws; Robert Puchalski and his wife JoAnn of Dudley and Vincent Puchalski and his wife Tuyet of Spencer, eight grandchildren, Alex, Ian, Justin, Jeffrey, Emily, KaiDan, Joey and Emma, several nieces and nephews. Born in Hilo, Hawaii she was the daughter of John and Ahpung (Yuen) Felix. She was a waitress at Aku-Aku Restaurant for many years before retiring. Thelma was an avid walker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crochet and spending time outside enjoying nature. The family would like to thank the Snow family, the Jalbert family and the Pilling families for all of their acts of kindness they’ve shown to Thelma over the years. SPENCER; Rita A. (Fritze) Paras, 98, formerly of Howe Village in Spencer, died Saturday, April 27 at Quaboag Rehab and Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield. She was the wife of Thomas Paras who died in 1974. She leaves a daughter, Barbara C. Nolin and her husband Stanley of Spencer, two grandchildren; Susan St. Germain and her husband Jim of Spencer, Thomas Sargent and his wife Heidi of Andover, and four great-grandchildren; Zachary and Tyler Sargent, Nick and Sarah St. Germain. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert O. Fritze in 2012. Born in Spencer, she was the daughter of Willie A. & Elozia (Letendre) Fritze. Mrs. Paras started her career as a shoe worker at Klevin Shoe Co. in Spencer where she worked for 30 years. She then became the activities director at Stone House Nursing Home and Lincoln Manor Rest Home for 10 years. She also worked at Oakhill Greenhouse in Spencer for several years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. A former 30 year member of the Spencer Garden Club, AARP-Spencer Chapter, Spencer Golden Age Club and former President of the Howe Village Tenants Association. Rita loved life. She took each day at a time and would go any where with a phone call. She lived her life her way, but would do any thing she could to help anyone. She would not want anyone to grieve her passing, but celebrate her life. At the family’s request there are no services planned. The J. SPENCER: Rhea L. (Lapierre) Gagne, 79, of Howe Village died Monday, May 20 in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. Her husband Louis A. “Pat” Gagne, Sr. died in 2012. Gagne of Spencer, four daughters, Patricia A. “Tish” Gagne and her partner Ed Boulanger of Charlton, Laurie A. Gagne and her partner John Herard of North Brookfield, Jean M. Normandin and her husband Richard of Spencer and Cheryl J. Chesson and her husband Ray of East Brookfield, a brother Paul Lapierre of Spencer, three sisters, Lorrette Pechie, Lorraine Messier and Jeanette Smith all of Spencer, 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a son James “Cricket” Gagne. Rhea was born in Spencer, daughter of Edgar and Lillian (Thibideau) Lapierre. She was a bevel grinder at Reed Rolled Thread & Die in Holden for many years before retiring. She was a former member of the ladies auxiliary Spencer American Legion Post 138. She was the first dispatcher at the Spencer Rescue Squad. She enjoyed playing bingo, crochet, cooking, camping and spending time with her family. A Celebration of Rhea’s life will be held Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 AM in J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. SPENCER; David L. Beford 72, of Ash St.,died Saturday, May 18 at Redstone Rehab & Nursing Center in E.Longmeadow after a brief illness. He was the husband of Susanne E. ( Duquette) Beford who died in 2006. He leaves a sister Eveline McGettigan and her family of Columbia, Md., his mother in law Elsa “Oma” Duquette and her late husband George Duquette, Sr. of Spencer, brother in laws George Duquette Jr.and his wife Kimberly of NewBraintree and Timothy Duquette of Allenstown, Pa., his sister in law Laurie Kimball of E.Longmeadow, nieces Rhianna and Erica and nephews Dane and Jacob. Dave worked many years at CRC Line, Inc. both in Spencer and Worcester before retiring. Born in Athol, he was the son of Adolphus N. and Stephanie (Bennett) Beford. Dave was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and blueberry picking. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 5p.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. A calling hour will precede the service from 4 to 5p.m. Burial will be at a later date and at the convenience of the family. SPENCER: Louis J. “Pete” Muzzrall, Jr., 87, of Jolicoeur Avenue died Saturday, May 26 in St. Vincent Hospital after being stricken ill.

His wife Loretta V. (Laroche) Muzzrall died in 2008. He leaves two daughters Susan L. Lacaire and her husband Donald of Spencer and Lissa J. Mooradd and her husband Peter of South Hadley, two grandchildren Corey Lacaire and his wife Shelly of Spencer and Justine Barnes and her husband Ronald Jr. of East Brookfield, six great-grandchildren Casey, Nolan, Alexis, Kane, Colton Louis and Addison. He was pre-deceased by a grandson Lucas Lacaire.

Mr. Muzzrall was born in East Brookfield, son of Louis J. and Eva (LeRoi) Muzzrall, Sr. He was raised in North Brookfield by his aunt & uncle Telux & Alice LeBlanc the former owners of the mosquito ballroom. He served his country in the United States Navy. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 to fight for his country in World War II. While serving on the USS Reno he was wounded in battle twice. He was blown out of his gun turret when a Kamikaze Pilot hit the ship; he was the only survivor of the turret. One and a half months later, he was again wounded when the USS Reno was hit by a torpedo. He was transferred by Hospital ship to Guadalcanal and then to a Naval Hospital in the States. Following his recovery he was discharged from the Navy and received 2 purple Hearts. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and the Gaudette-Kirk American Legion Post 138. For many years he and his wife bred and raised Beagles. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, cross country skiing; New England sports teams and taking trips to Atlantic City. At one time he served on the East Brookfield Fire Department.

The Funeral will be held Thursday, May 30 from J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10:00AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church Street, Spencer. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 29 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Central MA Chapter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
